A true American
hero, Hacksaw Jim Duggan is one of the most recognizable pro wrestlers
in the world today. His career has spanned decades - with highly
successful tenures in both the WWE and the WCW.
Hacksaw made
his WWE debut in 1987. With an American Flag in one hand, and his
trusty two-by-four in the other, he quickly garnered a faithful
fan following. Hacksaw made his first major appearance at Wrestlemania
3 - coming to the aid of the Killer Bees and clearing the ting of
the vile Nikolai Volkoff and Iron Sheik.
Whenever Hacksaw
Jim Dyggan entered the ring - whether it be for a match up, an interview,
or otherwise - the chants of "USA USA" were deafening.
His trademark "HOOOOOOO" brought fans to their feet -
night after night. In 1988 - to the delight of the capacity crowd
in attendance - Hacksaw won the very first Royal Rumble. This win
was a career - defining moment for Jim Duggan and would formally
mark the beginning of his Pro-American campaign.
Hacksaw spent
the next few years enveloped in feuds with Anti-American forces,
such as Boris Zuekov, Dino Bravo, and the Canadian Earthquake. His
"3-Point stance" clothesline" provided wins over
foe after foe.
In 1994, Hacksaw
departed from the WWE and signed with WCW. He immediately asserted
himself - defeating Steve Austin for the WCW United Staes Championship
at Fall Brawl. Hacksaw defended the belt with pride, before losing
it to Vader at Starrcade. Despite the loss, Hacksaw continued competing
favorably in WCW. He was featured prominently on Monday Nitro, taking
on opponents such as Steve Regal, Lex Luger, and The Gaint.
In 1998, Hacksaw
made a stunning announcement. Live on WCW TV, Jim revealed that
he had been diagnosed with cancer. He thanked the fans for their
years of support and vowed to one day return.
In 1999, Hacksaw made his triumphant return to WCW rings - his cancer
now in remission. He entered into a feud against the Revolution
- Shane Douglas, Dean Malenko, Chris Benoit, and Asya. Hacksaw would
continue competing in WCW up until the sale of the company. He holds
the distinction of being the last WCW Television Champion.
