Elix
Skipper began his pro wrestling career touring Canada. After honing
his skills up North, Elix made his American debut in the rings of
WCW. Immediately entering the Cruiserweight division, Elix competed
against the likes of Billy Kidman, Rey Mysterio Jr, and Juventud
Guerrera.
During
the summer of 2000, Elix revealed his Canadian past - joining forces
with Lance Storm, Jacques Rougeau, and Pierre Oulette. Known collectively
as "Team Canada", this faction had one clear goal - to
capture and monopolize the WCW titles belts. Team Canada succeeded
in capturing three of WCW's most prized championships - the United
States Title [Lance Storm], the Cruiserweight Title
[Elix SKipper], and the Hardcore Title [Pierre Oulette]. Elix defended
his belt proudly for several months, before dropping it to "Above
Average" Mike Sanders.
Elix
soon broke away from Team Canada, in order to pursue other goals
in WCW. Elix announced that he had found a new partner - but who
was he? On a March edition of WCW Nitro, Kid Romeo was revealed
to be Elix's "mystery" partner. The two immediately entered
the tournament to crown the FIRST ever WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team
Champions.
In
the first round of the tournament, Romeo and Skipper defeated AJ
Styles and Air Paris. The week after, the team decisively pinned
the Jung Dragons to advance to the final match at WCW Greed 2001.
At Greed, Skipper/Romeo faced Rey Mysterio Jr and Billy Kidman for
the titles. After a grueling contest and series of near falls, Skipper
and Romeo scored the pinfall and, more importantly, the WCW Cruiserweight
Tag Team Championship.
Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo would continue as champions for the next
several months. On the final edition of WCW Monday Nitro, Skipper/Romeo
dropped the belts to Mysterio/Kidman.
